A seemingly impossible event happened in San Diego County this past week. A small airplane crash landed on a freeway and subsequently rear ended a car. The result of the crash is 1fatality and several were injured. One of the more troubling aspects of this crash is that this specific plane had landed on the same stretch of freeway 14 years earlier!
We were saddened to learn that a passenger in the car was killed as a result of this plane accident and we pray for the family. Events like these, while unexpected reveal the complexity of personal injury. No one expects a plane to rear end a car on a freeway and as a result the issues get very complex. The reality is that aviation law will come into play as well as automobile related law. Combining these two disciplines will require experience and compassion.
This is another area of many within the law that requires those involved to pay particular attention to all of the little details and to research what has happened in the past. Knowing that this specific plane had a similar problem in the past could be of particular interest to those involved. Was this a forseable accident and if not, why not? Looking into how this plane has been maintained and how the plane was built initially could lead to valuable answers. What was the pilots experience level and was that a mitigating factor? What, if any other options other than the freeway did the pilot have when he knew that a landing of this sort was imminent? All of these questions and more will need to be asked and answered during the course of this investigation. This is just one more example of why experience is often the difference in personal injury settlements.
