In a story that becomes far too familiar on the river roads, 5 lives were claimed Saturday afternoon. The head on collision happened about 5:30 that afternoon and early reports suggest that the reason for the crash comes down to impatience.
Witnesses reported that a Honda Civic with 3 adults and 2 children was attempting to pass another vehicle when the driver lost control and was hit broadside by an oncoming full size Chevrolet pickup truck, the CHP reported. At the time of the crash the driver of the Civic had passed one vehicle and was attempting to pass another when she realized she didn't have room to complete the pass and when she tried to return to the initial lane of traffic she lost control.
The passengers in the pickup truck were a couple driving with older children in the back seat. They were transported to the hospital with injuries that were considered non-life threatening. The other injuries at the scene were likely emotional and belong to those that stopped to render whatever aid they could including placing calls to 911.
We want to remind everyone that it's incumbent on each of us to drive in a defensive manner, slow down a little and pay close attention. We work with injured victims and sometimes work with the families of people who were severely injured and die as a result of someone who wanted to save a couple of minutes or had to return that last text message.
