We make decisions daily. The majority of the decisions we make are beneficial while some are downright selfish. The Elk Grove Police Department in conjunction with the Elk Grove City Council are presenting a program called "Before The Impact."
This program is weighted toward the younger driver and looks at many of the decisions they make each and every time they climb behind the wheel of a car. Selfish decisions are those having a potential impact on that specific driver or others. Topics like text messaging, talking with passengers, driving while under the influence, driving while overly tired and even driving while overly emotional will be explored. The sessions will cover actual events that have happened including photos, clothing and even an actual vehicle.
Younger drivers often feel like they gain experience driving at a much faster rate than other tasks and that is largely because they have been watching it their entire life and they minimize the actual risks. The idea behind "Before The Impact" is to help the younger driver slow their decisions down and consider alternatives that others didn't consider and it shows the results. The first presentation is on Tuesday July 26 from 6 to 7:30 pm and again on Saturday August 6 from 9 to 10:30 am in the City Council Chambers at 8400 Laguna Palms Way.. This is a free presentation and parents are encouraged to attend with their teen driver.
