The latest bright, shiny object drivers have to distract them is "Pokemon Go". In case you live in a cave this is a virtual reality game which invites you into an alternative universe. In this universe you catch virtual creatures and add them to your collection. This game is supposed to cause increased physical activity in the form of walking and human contact for those playing it. The game is targeted at those 35 & under. So far so good. Here is the rest of the story.
While the game has only been out for a matter of days there are reports of accidents, robberies and injuries as people drive to catch these creatures while paying more attention to their phone and game than their driving. The last thing any age group needs is something that draws their attention away from the road to focus on a game that is downloaded to their phone for free. The crowd that I know playing this game say it's addictive and every effort is made to get to the next level. For many that effort includes driving while playing.
This was a fun game for these kids to play at home like they did in the late 90's. Those kids at home are now adults driving cars. The consequences are far more dramatic and some say potentially fatal. About all we can do is pay closer attention to your driving while reminding your young adults that driving and playing on their phone is not a game.
