Most automobile safety experts and researchers share the opinion your air-bag system is one of the most critical safety elements your car has. The Supplemental Restraint System goes largely un-noticed until the moment of greatest need and we take the reliability and safety of the system for granted. With a used car, the owner may not know the vehicle's repair history and whether or not the vehicle's air bags are reliable.
Recently a child in Southern California was injured by a piece of debris after a drone collided with a tree. That piece of debris hit the child as she was in a stroller. In another incident a small child in the United Kingdom was rendered partially blind by a drone that was being flown by a family friend and the friend lost control.
Involved parties at the scene of an accident often disagree regarding who is at fault in an accident. After such an emotional event, people should not be discussing fault without a police officer or independent witness present. Emotions are high and no one is eager to accept blame.
Kids and adults are attacked by dogs more often than most people are willing to believe. The consequences of those attacks are immediate and can be severe and even lead to death. Statistics from the Center for Disease Control suggest over 4 million people are attacked by dogs each year.
In what can only be called a horrible idea, a California Legislator has written a bill to allow the last call in bars to move to 4am. This bill would allow each municipality to decide what their last call should be and in no event could it be made earlier than the current 2am last call time.
"As attorneys we understand the importance of individuals having access to consult with an attorney whenever they have to deal with an insurance company." We have seen too many cases where a small, seemingly meaningless comment came back to haunt someone in a detrimental manner. A recent appeals court decision emphasizes the importance of strong legal representation like you get from GB Legal.
Passengers often feel like the odd person out after a car accident. Since they weren't the driver the odds are, with rare exception, they aren't going to be at fault. Since they are a passenger they often feel like there is no place to turn to recover financially from their injuries. We have often been told they don't want to pursue the driver if they were at fault and if the other driver was at fault the complexity of going after them as a passenger is overwhelming.
Recently IKEA reached a tentative settlement for $50 Million Dollars with 6 American families whose children were killed when the Swedish company's furniture fell on them. The families sued after the children were crushed to death after a dresser or chest fell on them.
Lawyers for the families argued the furniture was designed in such a way that it was inherently unstable and easily tipped over. Lawyers for the families are referring the case and results to the Consumer Products Safety Commission.
The reason the Consumer Products Safety Council is being included in the investigation is these deaths would have likely never happened if IKEA had made the dressers in accordance with the Voluntary National Safety Standards. While the standards are voluntary, safety is not! The standards are in place to prevent accidents of this sort. The head of the Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a warning to owners of the recalled furniture "If you have or think you have one of these products, act immediately," Chairman Kaye said "It is simply too dangerous to have the recalled furniture in your home unanchored, especially if you have young children."
IKEA has taken the next step and recalled over 29 million of the chests and dressers in question in response to both the accidents and the settlement. A child dies once every two weeks on average in accidents involving toppled furniture or television sets, according to the safety commission. A report issued in 2014 by the commission said children were the victims in 84 percent of the 430 deaths reported between 2000 and 2013 from tipped-over televisions, furniture and appliances; about 65 percent of those children were between 1 and 3½ years old. The IKEA settlement represents progress for consumer advocates working since 1989 to hold the company accountable for the deaths of young children.

Not long ago we published a blog about people taking "selfies" while driving and the problems it created. Doing something other than driving is something Henry Ford never considered and it seems many are focused on doing everything except driving in a defensive manner as we were taught in driver's education. As a result of all of the distractions drivers are faced with, new laws have been created.
