We see more and more evidence that features designed to protect us are actually doing the opposite. Let's take a minute and review some of the more obvious and egregious examples;
There are things we see each day that we don't really pay attention to. The reality is that they seem minimal at the time and in most cases they end well. Others however don't end so well.
An on duty California Highway Patrol officer was involved in a 4 car collision that resulted in the death of a 15 year old teenager from Willows recently according to a statement released by the CHP. This blog is not meant to denigrate any member of the CHP and is written to illustrate that distracted driving accidents can happen to anyone of us.
What a specific case is worth is possibly the most often asked question when we meet someone who has been injured. There is no answer that's 100% accurate. Each and every injury has issues that are specific to each individual. For instance, imagine there are 3 people in a car hit from behind and that means there is the potential for 3 vastly different levels of injury even with the same dynamic force.
Dutch Brothers Coffee is a local Elk Grove company who has been thrown onto the national stage for all of the right reasons. The reason boils down to a simple act of humanity that might otherwise have gone un-noticed were it not for a phone camera and social media. This is what social media was designed to do in our opinion.
One of our clients recently posted the quote below on the GBLegal Facebook site. We never requested they post this and had no idea they were going to post this. In the interest of confidentiality we are not including the identity of the person who posted this in our blog. Again, this is what our client said in their words.

When was the last time you stopped and looked around your house, both inside and out, at all the little repair jobs that need to be done? Some are cosmetic of course, but some are actually just an accident waiting to happen. It could be you that trips over that uneven concrete on your walkway, or it may be the mailman. You could in fact be running the risk of having a premises liability suit filed against you.
We wrote recently about the devastating impact of not having sufficient automobile insurance and how critical that becomes when you're involved in an accident with an uninsured or underinsured motorist. These days it comes down to the idea of buying sufficient insurance to cover yourself in the event the person hitting you doesn't carry enough or any insurance. By doing this you accept that if you are in an accident the other driver will be uninsured. In California the Insurance Resource Council estimates there are more than 4 million drivers without insurance. Better covered than sorry!
Most any new car built in the last 15 years has the option of a "Smart Key" which uses a Key Fob with a computer code within in that communicates with the cars on board computer system. This is a very convenient luxury item and where the law of unintended consequences comes into play.
