We read stories like this far too often. As parents we understand what this parent must be going through and we want to try and help and educate at the same time.

In 1992 the California Legislature enacted a law requiring anyone under the age of 18 riding a bike wear a helmet.  This law also applied to anyone riding a motorcycle.  This law was enacted to as an attempt to protect rider’s brains in the event of a crash.  Bicycle and motorcycle crashes are often caused by other drivers or riders, but can happen because of the negligence of the rider alone.

Ross Bozarth, the managing partner of GB Legal is a competitive cyclist and wouldn’t consider getting on a bike without a helmet and wouldn’t allow any family member to ride without one either.  The bicycle accident with this 16 year old boy happened after he was hit from behind by a 53 year old driver of an Avalanche pickup.  The child was hit and the father was clipped.  The child was drug about 100 feet before the driver stopped.  Witness reports say the truck was weaving in and out of traffic and the police are investigating whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.  Sadly the boy was not wearing a helmet and sustained life threatening injuries.  The accident happened at about 8:45 pm in a residential area.

No matter where you are riding it’s the law to wear a helmet if you are under 18 and wise to wear a helmet if you are over 18.  Helmets may be uncomfortable and not attractive.  Traumatic brains injuries aren’t all that attractive either.  If you are riding a bicycle or motorcycle you are at greater risk then when you are surrounded by the body of a car.  Please take every protection available to you should something happen to you or one of your children.

We represent people who are injured because of the careless and reckless acts of others. At the end of the day your case can only be settled one time and you need to know all of the facts beforehand. The reason that insurance companies have paid our clients in excess of $130,000,000.00 is that we get the facts and are not intimidated at the prospect of going to trial when they refuse to follow the law. Never in my life did I think I would recommend an attorney. Somehow God sent this angel of an attorney to assist me in my personal injury lawsuit. I was told by lawyers in Bakersfield that my lawsuit was frivolous because there was money in it.
