Early this week the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration ordered Ford Motor Company to issue a recall for driver-side airbag inflators. The recall was ordered due to concerns the airbag could rupture during a crash and send potentially deadly metal fragments flying into the passenger compartment. The recall is expected to affect 2.7 million vehicles domestically and 300,000 Canadian vehicles and cost an estimated $610 million.

The recall was finally ordered after a 2017 petition by Ford was denied seeking to avoid recalling the vehicles with the dangerous airbags supplied by Takata. The model years of the recalled vehicles range from 2006 to 2012 and include the Ford Ranger, Fusion, Edge, Lincoln MKZ/Zephyr, MKX and Mercury Milan. Earlier this month the NHTSA said that at least 17 million vehicles with potentially defective airbags have yet to be repaired.

The NHTSA press release went on to say “evidence makes it clear that these inflators pose a significant safety risk.” Ford added “We believe our extensive data demonstrated that a safety recall was not warranted for the driver-side air bag. However, we respect the NHTSA’s decision and will issue a recall.” The decision from the auto safety group will also require Mazda to recall and repair driver air bags in approximately 5,800 of their vehicles. Owners of vehicles that may be affected should check the NHTSA’s website for vehicle inclusion in the recall.

Never in my life did I think I would recommend an attorney. Somehow God sent this angel of an attorney to assist me in my personal injury lawsuit. I was told by lawyers in Bakersfield that my lawsuit was frivolous because there was money in it.
