A married couple from Galt recently pleaded “No Contest” to charges of auto insurance fraud in Yolo County following a 2018 crash. The Yolo County District Attorney’s Office said Lovepreet Randhawa was sentenced to prison time in March 2021 and his wife Parwinder Randhawa was sentenced to a year of probation in February 2021.

The pair filed a claim with Mercury Insurance after a crash in February 2018. During an investigation CHP officers determined LovePreeet, the driver at fault, had given false identifying information at the scene. Prosecutors said the Randhawa’s named a victim of identity theft during the crash, not Lovepreet. Despite initially denying fraud charges both Lovepreet and Parwinder eventually pleaded no contest according to Yolo County records. Parwinder was convicted on misdemeanor charges and given probation and Lovepreet was given a two-year split sentence of 60 days in jail and the balance in mandatory supervision. The couple was ordered to pay $40,000 in restitution.

Yolo District Attorney Jeff Reiseg said “filing false insurance claims and insurance fraud have an effect on the rising cost of auto insurance for everyone.” He went on to say “We are committed to investigating and prosecuting this type of fraud in our community.” We support District Attorney Reiseg’s diligence in this area. Fraudulent auto insurance claims makes legitimate claims more difficult and expensive for true victims of auto crashes and insurance companies may use resources that could otherwise be used to compensate actual victims.

Never in my life did I think I would recommend an attorney. Somehow God sent this angel of an attorney to assist me in my personal injury lawsuit. I was told by lawyers in Bakersfield that my lawsuit was frivolous because there was money in it.
