Ask yourself if you want to be a pedestrian or even in another car around these talented people so able to multi-task?  When we first learn to drive, the process seems very complicated and as we get used to driving the complication fades to boredom and repetition.  The idea that someone is texting, drinking a soda while changing the radio station and driving at 70MPH at the same time makes us want to stay home.  This is unsafe and no credible argument can be made in any other direction.

We read a quote recently from a 19 year old driver when he said “Being on my phone when I drive was something I did all the time… I guess you’d call it ignorance, but I never understood that it was dangerous”.  This is from Reggie Shaw who was 19 when he caused an accident while texting that killed 2 people.

• 28% of those surveyed are missing out on something important if they don’t check their phone right away.
• More than 25% believe their driving performance is not adversely affected.
• More than 25% said they believe that others expect them to respond to texts right away.
• 14% are anxious if they don’t respond to a text right away.
• 6% say they are addicted to texting!

The manufacturers of cell phones are a smart group and they have built a machine that was once a luxury that has become a necessity for most.  Cell phones act as little tiny slot machines for the brain and they increase the flow of Dopamine.  Getting positive text messages increase the flow of Dopamine even more.  As this flow of Dopamine  increases the safety of the rest of us decreases.
