At Taft Point visitors can walk to the edge of granite ledge that offers spectacular views of the Yosemite Valley. The thrill-seeking social media posts foretold the growing problem of selfie deaths. The Journal of Family Medicine and Primary Care reports over 250 people have died taking selfies between October 2011 and November 2017. Researchers said drowning is the primary cause of these deaths because people aren’t paying attention to their surrounding and get washed away by waves. They also report people have died as a result of falling from a boat, people killed while posing in front of a moving train, deaths involving falls from high places and even taking pictures with dangerous animals.
